How to Find a Good $10 Bottle of Wine

June 5, 2018 By James

We all love to find a cheap bottle of wine that’s actually quite delicious.  However, that’s easier said than done.

We’ve all been there.  Rushing to dinner parties or housewarmings, picking up that bottle of wine because you really have no other idea what to bring the host or hostess.  And then, there’s the very difficult process of picking a good bottle of wine out.  Even if you’re a wine lover, spending more than a certain amount on a bottle of wine that you’re gifting someone (and may not even drink!) is a lot to ask.

That’s why we’re here to make life a lot easier for you.  And even if you’re not trying to find a cheap (yet good!) bottle of wine to gift someone, it’s always nice to know your options for yourself as you plan to watch the latest episode of Scandal or The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

Premium producer, everyday wine

One way to really cut back on finding a great bottle of wine is to search for an everyday wine from a premium producer.  Not all of us can afford such luxury like a bottle of Brunello di Montalcino, and that’s okay.  There are some wine producers that actually declassify their bottles when they use their grapes that are from their younger vineyards, when they’re trying some new technique, or when they are trying to make a certain wine style that tends to be different from what their regional regulations dictate.  These become markdowns — which then become something that tends to be described as a bargain, or steal.

Find bottles that are from an undervalued region

Listen, we’d love to always be able to buy a nice bottle of wine from France or Italy… but those tend to be regulated to special occasions or occasional splurges.  However, finding a really nice bottle of wine from, say, a place like Portugal can be much cheaper than most probably realize.  Honestly, this is probably our most used tip when scouring through the wine section of our favorite liquor store.  You might even find a new favorite!
